Best Amazon Prime Day Tech Deals

Amazon Prime day is live, so here’s a list of the gizmo’s that I think are worth buying. Prices are for the US, but the deals and products available will vary by time and location.
The deals I’m featuring are mostly technology products from big companies, but keep in mind that Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook don’t need more of your money. If you don’t find anything you like on this list, consider supporting a local business instead. During the lead up to Prime day, Amazon featured many U.S. based small businesses, and I highly encourage you to support local small businesses when possible.
Amazon Devices
Echo Flex
The Echo Flex is the smallest Echo device, letting you turn a power outlet into a small Alexa-enabled speaker. It also has a USB-A outlet for charging devices. The USB port can also be used for Echo Flex accessories, which can add a night light, motion sensor or digital clock. The Echo Flex is on sale for $9.99. The Echo Flex is also available with a $5 Amazon smart plug or free LIFX smart bulb for Prime members.
Echo Dot (3rd Gen)
Besides the Echo Flex, the Echo Dot is the smallest and cheapest Echo speaker. Normally $49.99, the 3rd gen Echo Dot is on sale for $18.99 with 6 months free of Amazon Music Unlimited. The Echo Dot is also available with a $5 Amazon smart plug or free LIFX smart bulb for Prime members.
Echo Studio
If the Echo Dot doesn’t cut it, the Echo Studio adds a 1" tweeter, three 2" mid-range speakers, a 5.25" woofer an optical line in, and support for Dolby Atmos. The Studio also includes a Zigbee smart hub for controlling all your Zigbee-enabled smart home devices. Normally $199, the Echo Studio is on sale for $149.99. The Echo Studio is also available with the $5 Amazon Smart Plug, or 2 free Hue bulbs for Prime members.
Kindle
The ad-supported 8GB Kindle Paperwhite is on sale for $79.99.
The ad-free 8GB Kindle Paperwhite is on sale for $99.99.
The ad-spported 32GB Kindle Oasis is on sale for $199.99.
The ad-free 32GB Kindle Oasis is on sale for $219.99.
Fire HD 10 Tablet
The Fire HD 10 is the biggest Android tablet Amazon makes. By default, all Fire tablets have sponsored screensavers and targeted advertising, in exchange for a lower upfront cost. Removing ads from the device raises the price by $25, and in my mind that is worth every penny.
Normally $149.99, the Ad-supported 32 GB Fire HD 10 tablet is on sale for $79.99.
The Ad-free 32 GB model is on sale for $94.99.
The Ad-supported 64 GB model is on sale for $119.99.
The Ad-free 64 GB model is on sale for $134.99.
Smaller sizes of the Fire are also on sale, including the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition which is on sale for $79.99.

1 year of Audible: Normally $149.50, on sale for $99.50.
6 months of Kindle Unlimited: Normally $59.94, on sale for $29.97.

Apple Devices
AirPods
AirPods are a wireless version of the wired earbuds that have come for free with Apple products for years. The basic AirPods fit my ears well, but I know that isn’t true for everyone. If those wired earbuds fit you, AirPods will as well. Apple’s 2nd generation AirPods are available with or without a wireless charing case.
The lightning-only wired charging case AirPods are on sale for $114.99.
If you want to add wireless charging, that is on sale for $159.99.
AirPods Pro
The AirPods Pro add active noise-cancelation and use silicone tips for an in-ear fit. They are only available with wireless charging, and are on sale for $199.99.
I have both the basic AirPods and the Pro models, and I find they are both good for different uses. The active noise-cancellation is the main reason to step up to the AirPod Pros, but some people may find that they fit in their ears better. The 3 different silicone tips should allow most people to find a comfortable fit. For me, the active-noise cancellation alone is worth the price difference.
Powerbeats Pro
If you prefer the more secure style of Powerbeats, The latest Powerbeats Pro are on sale for $174.95. Colors other than black are available for $199.99.
iPad (8th Gen, 10.2 inch)
The basic iPad is the best tablet you can get for the price. The 8th generation model features the A12 processor, a 10.2 inch screen, and support for the 1st gen Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.

The WI-Fi 6 models were just announced, and will be available in November. For now, you can get the excellent Wi-Fi 5 Eero mesh kit on sale for $174.00.
